Motorola Unveils The New and Improved Moto G Play with 50MP Camera and Kid-Friendly Features

Motorola is set to elevate its budget-friendly Moto G series with the anticipated launch of the 2024 Moto G Play. Boasting a formidable 50MP rear camera, this device is a substantial upgrade from its predecessor and brings some features akin to flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S23.

Moto G Play Camera Enhancements

The highlight of the 2024 Moto G Play is its 50MP rear camera, a significant improvement over the previous year’s 16MP lens. While it may not match the high-end features of flagship devices, Motorola is incorporating software tools to enhance picture quality. The device supports HDR for vibrant images and utilizes Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), heralded as the “best method for autofocusing” on smartphones.

Shooting Modes and Selfie Camera

The rear camera offers an array of shooting modes, including night vision and 8x digital zoom. On the front, the selfie lens has been upgraded to 8MP and features the innovative Photobooth tool, enabling users to stitch together four different poses into a series of consecutive pictures.

Display and Hardware Features

While the 6.5-inch 720p LCD screen remains, the 2024 Moto G Play introduces a 90Hz maximum refresh rate for smoother video playback, with the option to switch to 60Hz for enhanced battery life. Powered by a 6nm Snapdragon 680 chipset, the device lacks 5G connectivity, a strategic move by Motorola to maintain affordability.

Kid-Friendly Features

Positioned as an ideal first phone for kids, the Moto G Play incorporates safety features such as Corning Gorilla 3 glass for durability and an IP52 protection rating against accidental spills. The Family Space tool empowers parents to set screen time limits and control app accessibility, fostering a secure digital environment for younger users.

Additional Features and Availability

The Moto G Play comes equipped with Moto Secure protection against malware, Dolby Atmos for immersive audio, and a robust 5,000mAh battery lasting up to 46 hours on a single charge. Priced at $150, the device is set to launch in the United States on February 8, available through Motorola’s website, Amazon, and major carriers like Verizon, Cricket, and AT&T. Canadian users can expect it on January 26, with pricing dependent on the selected carrier.
