OnePlus Watch 2 to Debut with Wear OS Upgrade at MWC 2024

In a recent online revelation, details point to the imminent debut of the OnePlus Watch 2 at the Mobile World Congress 2024 (MWC 2024) in Barcelona. Leaked renders have already offered a sneak peek into the smartwatch’s features.

Wear OS Enhancement Over Predecessor

The OnePlus Watch 2 is poised for a significant upgrade with Wear OS, departing from its predecessor’s simpler operating system. This move promises many advanced features, marking a pivotal shift in the brand’s smartwatch strategy.

OnePlus Watch 2, Launch Details and Strategic Timing

Tech enthusiasts can expect the unveiling of the OnePlus Watch 2 towards the end of February during the annual MWC. Notably, the absence of teasers ahead of the OnePlus 12 global launch event on January 23 is viewed as a strategic move. This decision allows the flagship OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R, and OnePlus Buds 3 TWS earphones to claim the spotlight initially.

Recall of OnePlus Watch Debut

Harkening back to April 2021, OnePlus entered the smartwatch arena with the release of the first OnePlus Watch. Priced at Rs. 14,999, it featured a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass, 5ATM water resistance, and an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. Notably, it departed from the trend of running on Google’s Wear OS.

Max Jambor’s Insight and Wear OS Version Uncertainty

According to Max Jambor’s post on X (formerly Twitter), the OnePlus Watch 2 is slated for launch at MWC 2024. However, details regarding the Wear OS version remain elusive. Confirmation is pending on whether it will run Wear OS 3 or the latest Wear OS 4. The latter promises enhanced notifications, safety features, and improved watch face formatting, including backup, restore, and data transfer capabilities across devices.

Leaked Renders and Noteworthy Features

Leaked renders from last November have provided a first look at the OnePlus Watch 2. Featuring a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen and powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip, the smartwatch is poised to make a mark in the competitive market. Its appearance on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website, under the model number OPWWE231, suggests a forthcoming launch in India.
